St. John’s School and College (Brighton and Seaford) is a non-maintained school and college, providing specialist education, therapy and care. We work with young people (aged 7-25 years), many of whom are autistic and/or have complex learning disabilities and other secondary needs, such as hearing/visual impairment and mental health needs.
Colleagues can claim back dental, optical, prescription, vaccination and a variety of other healthcare fees and have level 1 cover for the year for free. Colleagues can upgrade their cover for a small fee each month which is deducted from their salary and can also add their partners. Up to 5 children under 24 can be added to cover for free.
Colleagues can access a portion of their pay prior to payday if they wish to. They also have access to financial wellbeing guidance. Some colleagues use this to save money each month or to help out when unexpected costs occur.
Colleagues can get a bike on the Green Commute scheme tax free, which we will pay for and they pay back a small portion of their salary each month.
Colleagues are entitled to 2 paid days off per academic year to recharge and take time out specifically for their mental health and wellbeing.
Clinical drop-ins on site and online where appropriate.
We care about our colleagues and offer a range of benefits to our employees. These include a free healthcare cash plan, ongoing career development and qualifications, well-being support, gym and health discounts. We are dedicated to our colleagues' mental health and offer free counselling, occupational health specialist confidential sessions and professional coaching.
We invest in our colleagues’ careers and professional development, tailoring your learning and development journey around your individual aspirations.
We provide a wide range of learning and development opportunities, including first aid, fire safety, people management training, de-escalation training and positive behaviour management, safer recruitment, epilepsy awareness, autism awareness and more.
We have exciting opportunities to progress in your career with us, including the chance to become an effective and skilled people manager.
I have worked at St. John's for 11 years. The philosophy and approach to supporting learners is second to none and the multi-disciplinary approach provides a holistic service that increases quality of life for young people.
I have worked for St. John's for over 14 years. I have been rewarded so many times working in a care setting with learners, giving me a chance to help them progress.
I joined St. John’s in 2008 as a Support Worker and have had the pleasure of working in several of the Brighton houses. The moment I joined, I knew that I wanted to develop my career and St. John’s gave me this opportunity. Within my time here, I have been lucky enough to develop within my role and I have been a Lead Residential Support Worker, Team Leader and I am currently now a Deputy Care Manager. I have just completed my Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Young People’s Services. I am thankful for St. John’s as they invested the time in me to be able to carve out a career within the Social Care Sector and develop within each of my roles. St. John’s isn’t just a job, it is a career.
